It’s officially the end of the school year's first quarter, and students are finally settling into a comfortable day-to-day routine.
However, many students may be stressed about whether their routine works. Are they spending enough time on homework, clubs, and other extracurricular activities outside of school?
Luckily, two of Scioto's students can give a glimpse into their daily routines to see what a good schedule looks like and how to make one.
Lauren Bliss is a freshman who runs cross-country and Stephanie Mangana Rodriguez is a sophomore who plays Alto Sax in Scioto’s marching band. Both are very time-consuming activities; however, they still find the balance between schoolwork and their social lives.
How do you balance your schedule?
Stephanie calls the time slots she devotes in her life ‘pockets’ saying, “There are certain like pockets of my day where I can focus on school work, that's mostly outside of practice.” She also states that she tries to use any free time she has to work on her assignments even if it's just during her classes once her work is finished.
Do you ever feel like you're missing out on things you’d like to do but don’t have time for?
Lauren says that she has had to drop certain activities in order to find time in her schedule to rest. “I used to dance and that was like a big thing even just in middle school like balancing that was difficult but I can’t even imagine if I tried to continue that.”

Do you have any advice for people creating their own schedules?
Lauren encourages people to find time for themselves and joy in their activities.
“Go to the volleyball game, go to the football game, like try a new sport, go to that preseason lifting, go to that club meeting. I think you just need to really let go and like allow yourself to kind of make mistakes and maybe, get healthily stressed out right? You have to allow yourself the time to be a person and be a part of the school community.”
Stephanie brings to light taking the time to work on one's mental health and making sure you can find time to be a person rather than just a student.
It is important to find a healthy balance within one's schedule because it can help balance a person’s mind. It can make you feel less overwhelmed, less stressed, and more relaxed. When you have a good balance within day-to-day activities, the mind will find its peace.
“I definitely don’t mean don’t do your homework or don’t do any of your work ever,” says Lauren. “It’s all about finding that healthy balance being able to feel like you’re a part of the school but also still succeeding in your academics too.”
